First Win in Local Elections for Bentley

On Thursday 9 August 2018, Isle of Man Green Party Chairman, Andrew Bentley, became the first successful Isle of Man Green Party candidate to win in an Election campaign.

Local architect and founding Green Party member, Andrew Bentley, was endorsed to run on behalf of the Party in Douglas, Derby Ward, at a Green Party meeting last month.

Andrew Bentley won with 42% of the votes cast in Derby Ward, 52 votes ahead of the nearest candidate. This comes after Dan Webb ran for the Green Party in Ramsey South Ward by-election in July, where Dan gained 40% of the votes cast.

Party Leader, Andrew Newton, outlined that Andrew and Dan were the first candidates running for office on behalf of the Party, and that this is the next step along the strategic plan for a sustainable future of the Isle of Man.

On Andrew’s successful election, Andrew Newton said: “The Green Party are delighted that the people of Derby Ward voted so heavily in favour of our Party Chairman. The effort and commitment Andrew Bentley has shown to the party over the last two years are commendable and we’re pleased he has been so well received in his first election.”

Andrew Bentley said: “We have a wonderful opportunity to make Douglas a capital we want it to be. To express our values and who we are as a nation.”

Mr Bentley will hold the position until 2020.
