Green Party Launches Local Election Campaign

The Isle of Man Green Party launched its election campaign for the April 2020 local elections last week. Held at the Falcon’s Nest Hotel, Port Erin, the Green Party’s election strategist Leo Cussons provided insights to attendees on how to prepare and run an election campaign.

The Green Party will be offering the electorate in April 2020 an opportunity to vote in favour of a sustainable future for the Isle of Man. The Party believe that global change is enabled by actions taken at the local level. In March 2019, Green Party Commissioner Andrew Jessopp chaired the first political body to declare a climate emergency in the Isle of Man.

As a part of its campaign tour, the Party is hosting public meetings on the role and functions of a local politician, how to campaign in an election, and the change the Party will deliver once elected. Before Christmas the following public meetings are being held around the Island around the Isle of Man:-

- Monday 25 November 2019 - 6:30pm, Columba Club, Circular Road, Douglas

- Wednesday 4 December 2019 - 7pm, Whitehouse, Tynwald Road, Peel

- Wednesday 11 December 2019 - 7pm, Mitre, Parliament Street, Ramsey

Keep an eye on the our Green Calendar for up to date meetings dates.

With a growing membership the Party is able to run more meetings, giving a wider reach across the Island. The Isle of Man Green Party is supported by membership fees, donations and volunteer time. The Party is very grateful for the members’ support for its strategy for sustainable change in the Isle of Man. In particular, this year the Party has received the endorsement and a donation of £2000 from former Isle of Man Environment Minister from 2004-2006, John Rimington. As well as being an Isle of Man politician, John was previously the National Membership Secretary for the New Zealand Green Party and also took the same role with the Welsh Green Party.

In support of the Isle of Man Green Party John said,

"There is an increasing urgency to address Climate Change. I am happy to support the Isle of Man Green Party as the only coherent voice seeking to make the radical changes needed. I support their commitment to seek a political voice at both local and national level."
